Mix Designs

Muskogee Redi-Mix utilizes several variations of standard mix designs which we have had may years of successful experience with.

Our standard mix designs range from 2500 PSI to 5000 PSI at 28 days. Variations of our mix designs incorporate Flyash from 0 to 25% and Entrained Air as well as other add mixtures to enhance the concrete properties.

ADD MIXTURES and Their Common Uses

Calcium Chloride: Accelerates to hydration process resulting in shorter setting times and earlier compressive strengths. It is commonly used in cold weather conditions in conjunction with hot water provided at the concrete plant to speed finishing process and removal of forms. Note, calcium chloride is not recommended for use with rebar, metal decking, electrical conduits or metallic based material.

Non-Chloride Accelerator: Is identical to calcium chloride except that is non-corrosive accelerator in a liquid which is added at the concrete plant. Retarder: Slows down the hydration process resulting in longer setting times. It is commonly used in hot weather conditions to slow down the finishing process. In temperatures above 85 degrees or concrete being placed in direct sun light in hot weather, the hydration process is greatly accelerated and needs to be slowed down to provide enough time to place the concrete.

High Range Water Reducer (Superplasticizer): A water reducing admixture added at the concrete plant which produces a high slump and increases flowablity. Superplasticizer is commonly used for pumping concrete, producing high strength concrete and enabling the concrete to flow around rebar, matting and in tight areas such as corners and turns without using excessive water.

Fibermesh: A plant added polypropylene fiber mesh product that eliminates the use of wire mesh. Fiber gives consistent reinforcement throughout the concrete mix and reduces the square foot cost for the contractor. Fiber does not require the labor associated with wire mesh and if not properly placed above the ground with chairs, it will lay on the bottom of the slab not in the middle where it needs to be to prevent shrinkage cracks. Note: steel fibers are also available and can increase tensile strength, offer excellent crack control, reduce floor thickness and increase load bearing capacity.

Expansion Joints: A fibrous material usually 1/2 inch thick, 10 ft long and range in width from 3″ to 6″. Expansion joints are used to control cracks in slabs, driveways and sidewalks, they should be place 2 feet apart for every inch of thickness of the slab.

Fly Ash: Finely Ground glassy granular material formed from an inorganic residue from coal combustion in modern power plants that burn fossil fuel. Fly ash is a pound for pound replacement for cement which provides improved strength, pumpability and workability. Fly Ash can be as much as a 30% replacement for cement in a concrete mix design.
